Specifics of surface hardening of gears using a high-power laser
The paper describes the process of surface hardening of gears using a high-power laser. The HF induction hardening method is traditionally used for hardening gears. The comparison of these two methods is made both from the point of view of the technological process and the resulting utility properties. Special emphasis is placed on the issue of residual stress and surface cracks. In addition to the above, the article explains how the right microstructure increases the fatigue resistance of parts under cyclic loading. There is described fatigue crack propagation and tribological behavior of less degraded laser hardened surfaces compared to induction hardened gears.
