The paper is focused on the way of purchasing steel materials. After initial processing, steel materials have many properties that cannot be significantly changed by further technological processing. It is necessary to remember them when ordering and include them in the order. This can prevent many discrepancies with customer requirements. Trying to achieve a low price for the purchase of material does not offset the losses caused by purchases controlled only by price and not by the value of the properties of the purchased material.
