Advanced developments in the field of stop-off paints
Stop-off Technologies for Heat Treatment are used to prevent diffusion of C and/or N during carburising, carbonitriding and nitriding, because in many cases, it is required to leave some areas of the workpieces either nonhardened for later machining, turning, drilling, coldforming or straightening – or even without any case for later welding.
The use of stop-off paints is a proven technology and remains state of the art. Numerous products are available to meet the requirements of specific processes. Reliability and process-safe application always take centre stage. Compared to alternative solutions, the use of stop-off paints offers technical and economic advantages in most cases. They can be used for both single part and series production. The process-safe application of stop-off paints can be integrated into modern production lines.
Increasing demands on occupational health and safety and environmental protection require continuous further development of the stop-off paints and their application methods.
On the other hand, new product developments are based on the efforts to use renewable, sustainable and environmentally friendly base materials in order to reduce CO2 – pollution during their manufacturing, application and disposal.
This presentation will describe the stop-off paints currently in use with regard to these requirements and new approaches for the development of products with which these technical and ecological goals are to be achieved.
