Effect of heat treatment on the structure of Fe-28Al-5Si and Fe-28Al-5Si-2Nb alloys – POSTER
Iron aluminides Fe-28Al-5Si and Fe-28Al-5Si-2Nb (at. %) were annealed at temperatures of 900°C and 1100°C for 100 h. The structure of the alloys in the initial state (in as-cast state) and after heat treatment were analysed using optical and electron microscopy with EDX. The hardness and microhardness of the individual phases were also measured. The structure and hardness of the Fe 28Al-5Si alloy did not change even after heat treatment at 1100°C. In the case of the Fe-28Al- 5Si 2Nb alloy, after annealing at 900°C/100 h, small particles with a higher niobium content precipitated in the matrix, which caused an increase in the alloy hardness. On the contrary, due to annealing at 1100°C/100 h, Nb and Si-based precipitates coagulate and the hardness decreases.
