Induction heat treatment of the additively manufactured functional tool layer of AISI M2 steel
Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology using powdered raw materials enables the production of materials in combinations that would be very problematic using conventional technologies. The research described here deals with the surface induction heat treatment of a functional deposited layer of AISI M2 steel without affecting the base material of C45 steel. The main objective of this research is to improve the final properties and tool life of forming tools when the tool matrix is made of a cheaper low alloy steel and its functional layer is made of AISI M2 tool steel. The effect of heat treatment parameters on the microstructure, hardness and depth of influence of the functional layer of the tool produced by additive technology was investigated.
