The evaluation methods of retained austenite in steels
The occurrence of retained austenite due to non-compliance with the technological procedure of heat treatment leads to changes in the mechanical properties of the product and sometimes even to a change in its shape. It is therefore necessary to pay sufficient attention to the output control of production, the evaluation method used, its accuracy and sensitivity. The various methods of measuring and evaluating retained austenite in steels always have advantages and disadvantages. Methods with a low detection limit and a non-destructive approach are highly desirable, but often operated in laboratories. Their transfer to routine production and inspection operations requires some optimization and standardization. Such processes are ongoing with possibilities for their practical application in hardening and other heat treatment facilities. The applications will be demonstrated.
