Water consumption savings in hardening operations

Gregor Michal - MEDUNA vakuová kalírna s.r.o. (Czech Republic)

This work addresses water savings in hardening plants following a water audit conducted according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade methodology. The aim was to map the current state of water management and propose measures to reduce water consumption in the hardening operation. Measures were established in several areas, including tower cooling, production technologies, and the use of rainwater for cooling. Implementing all the measures will result in water savings of 2,730 m³/year. As a result of the water audit, the hardening plant received the “Responsible Water Management” award from the Ministry of the Environment, which provides marketing advantages and increased protection in drought or water scarcity, as per the Water Act.
